Dodge City, Kan., — Associate Editor Jennifer M. Latzke was named the 2013 Kansas Professional Communicator Awards Sweepstakes Winner—tallying the most points among all entrants for her winning contest entries—during the organization’s annual conference held in Manhattan, Kan., on April 27.
Latzke’s entries consisted of two stories written and submitted as a pair in each writing category. She received accolades in multiple categories including column categories. Latzke writes a regular column, Common Ground—which earned the veteran writer three first place awards in three sub-categories.
In the humorous category first place was awarded to “Zumba at your own risk” and “The Nanny Goat Diaries.” The general column prize was awarded to “Farmers Rock” and “Temporary heartbreak.” The first place in the personal opinion column was awarded to “You don’t have to attend every argument” and “The ick factor.”
Latzke also picked up first place prizes in the specialty article-agriculture category for “Balancing environmentalism and profits works for Texas farmers” and “Islands of yellow amid the sea of green.”
Adding to the Sweepstakes Award for Latzke were second and third place awards in the specialty article-agriculture category. She was also awarded third place in the specialty article-social issues category, and general columns category.
The marketing department was also awarded multiple awards. The pair of Amanda Johnson, graphic artist, and Sarah Farlee, marketing director, picked up a first place award in the advertising campaign category. Their collaboration also picked up a second place award in the single advertisement category. The 12-Days of Agriculture campaign was also awarded a first place award in the social media campaign category.
Gerry McDonald, marketing consultant, was awarded first place for the High Plains Journal special directory Journal GetAways.
